Oris Keeps It Simple: The New Artelier Complication in Three Colours

Oris has taken a long, hard look at the Artelier Complication and decided that less really is more. Gone is the multi function overload of previous generations, replaced by a far cleaner, more considered execution that feels properly in step with what a modern dress watch should be.

At 39.5mm, it sits neatly in that sweet spot. Slim enough to disappear under a cuff, but with enough presence to avoid feeling timid. The real story, though, is on the dial. Oris has reduced things down to just two complications: a moonphase at 12 and a second time zone at 6. That is it. No calendar clutter, no unnecessary noise. Just a balanced, symmetrical layout that finally lets the design breathe.

And then there are the colours.

The ivory dial is the purist’s choice. It leans into everything you would expect from a traditional dress watch, but without feeling dated. The soft tone, paired with polished markers and restrained detailing, gives it a quiet confidence. It is the kind of watch that does not need to prove anything.

The chestnut version is where things get more interesting. Warm, slightly copper toned, and far less predictable, it brings a bit of personality to what is otherwise a very classic design. The contrast between the main dial and the subdial at 6 adds depth, making it feel that bit more dynamic without tipping into showy territory.

Then there is the midnight blue. Arguably the most versatile of the three, it strikes a balance between modern and formal. The deeper tone works particularly well with the moonphase, giving it a bit more visual presence, while still keeping everything cohesive. It is the one that will likely appeal to the widest audience, and for good reason.

What Oris has done here is not revolutionary, but it is smart. By simplifying the watch and letting the colours do the heavy lifting, they have created something far more refined than before. Three variations, one clear idea, and no unnecessary distractions.

Sometimes, that is all you need.
