Small Case, Big Character: Farer Goes Cushion in 35mm
Farer has never been a brand afraid of colour, character or a little design flair. Now the British brand is doubling down on charm with a new 35mm cushion case collection that feels like a love letter to vintage watchmaking, only with a thoroughly modern Farer twist.
At first glance the case is the headline act. The softly squared cushion profile is wonderfully nostalgic, recalling the dress watches of the late sixties and seventies, yet the execution is crisp and contemporary. Crafted from stainless steel and measuring around 35mm across with a slim 10.6mm profile, it is a size that feels refreshingly classic in an era dominated by larger watches.
The proportions are spot on. Short curved lugs and a smooth tonneau inspired shape allow the watch to sit neatly on the wrist, while a curved sapphire crystal follows the contours of the case to maintain that elegant silhouette. It is compact, refined and just a little bit different from the sea of round watches that dominate the market.
Inside, Farer keeps things reassuringly serious with the Swiss made Sellita SW300 1 automatic movement. Running at 28,800 vibrations per hour with roughly 56 hours of power reserve, it is a calibre well known for reliability and accuracy. Flip the watch over and the movement is visible through a sapphire exhibition caseback, complete with Farer’s colour matched rotor that ties the mechanics neatly into the overall design story.
But of course this is Farer, and the dial is where things get interesting. Expect the brand’s usual mastery of colour and texture, from lacquered finishes to subtle dial patterns that play beautifully with light. The minimalist two hand layout keeps the aesthetic clean and balanced, letting the design breathe without unnecessary complications.
Despite its dressy leanings the watch is more capable than it first appears. With 100 metres of water resistance it is perfectly happy in everyday rotation, whether that means office hours, evening drinks or the occasional weekend adventure.
The result is a watch that feels very much like Farer at its best. Confident design, strong mechanical credentials and just enough individuality to stand out without shouting about it.
In a market full of oversized sports watches, this new 35mm cushion case range is a reminder that sometimes the most interesting releases come in smaller packages.
And frankly, it is nice to see a brand embracing elegance again.
