Studio Underd0g x Massena LAB 03 SERIES – Champagne & Caviar

A bold new collaboration

In a surprising yet sophisticated move, independent British micro-brand Studio Underd0g has teamed up with American‐Swiss collaborative label Massena LAB to release the 03 SERIES “Champagne & Caviar” — a limited‐edition timepiece that leans into flair and horological substance. Priced at £1,750 GBP, the watch is limited to just 200 pieces, with release set for 11 November at 15:00 GMT.

Design & concept: playful luxury

The concept behind the watch lives up to its name. Studio Underd0g describes the pairing of champagne and caviar as “something special to symbolise watch-making at its most inspirational and unexpected”.

Key design flourishes:

  • A “generously-portioned pot of caviar” motif is visible in the large “big-eye” sub-dial at 3 o’clock, cleverly re-imagined via modern machining.

  • The chronograph seconds hand ends in the shape of a miniature champagne bottle — a whimsical nod to the “champagne” half of the title.

  • The dial itself features a radial brushed base and a coarse dégradé top dial, giving texture and depth to the finish.

  • The case, though modest in diameter, uses a three-part construction in 316L stainless steel, giving robustness and presence.

Technical specifications

This is not just a fun design piece — the specification backs up real horological credibility:

  • Case dimensions: Ø 38.5 mm, thickness 13.6 mm, lug-to-lug 44.5 mm.

  • Movement: Swiss made Sellita SW510 M, a monopusher, manual-winding chronograph calibre with about 63 hours power-reserve.

  • Dial: Sapphire crystals, Super-LumiNova C3 lume, radial brushed base + dégradé top-dial.

  • Strap: Pebble-grain calfskin, quick-release spring bars, tapered from 20 mm to 16 mm.

  • Water resistance: 5 ATM (so light splash resistant, but not for diving).

Brand & provenance

Studio Underd0g emphasises its independent credentials: the watch is Assembled in Great Britain and undergoes thorough QC including demagnetisation, regulation in three positions, and comes with a report card.

Massena LAB enters as collaborator: founded by collector/industry expert William Massena, the label works to propose unusual watch concepts “beyond the offerings from their collection”, playing with independent style and heritage cues.

Why this release matters

  • Limited scarcity: Only 200 pieces – for collectors, that immediately adds appeal.

  • Micro-brand muscle: Studio Underd0g may not yet carry the weight of traditional luxury names, but they’re building a reputation for quality and distinctiveness.

  • Independent spirit: The collaboration with Massena LAB signals serious intent—this isn’t a fashion watch with a quartz movement; the SW510 M is something to note.

  • Design story: The champagne & caviar motif walks the line between playful and tasteful. For watch lovers who like a little personality, but still fine finishing and mechanical credibility, this ticks the boxes.

  • Size and wearability: At 38.5 mm diameter, it’s well within conventional, comfortable proportions (especially compared with many oversized modern watches).

Considerations / caveats

  • The 5 ATM water-resistance means it’s not built for heavy water exposure — more refined daily wear rather than sports use.

  • As with many limited editions from smaller brands, resale and service networks may be more niche compared to larger house names — potential owners should consider long-term support.

  • With a quirky design story, this watch may appeal more to those who favour distinctive flair over ultra-conservative dress-watch styling.

Verdict

The “Champagne & Caviar” from Studio Underd0g x Massena LAB is a compelling proposition for the discerning collector who seeks something different: mechanical substance (monopusher chronograph, Swiss movement), refined independent craftsmanship (UK assembly, small batch), and a design that has fun without descending into gimmick. At £1,750 for a 200-piece run, it offers a rare mix of rarity, mechanical interest, and design personality.

If you’re looking for a conversation starter on the wrist that still delivers on serious watchmaking credentials, this might just be one to mark in your calendar for 11 November.
