The Serica Ref. 7505 Shrinks the Field Watch Without Losing the Plot

For years, watch brands have treated smaller case sizes like compromises. Trim a few millimetres off the diameter and suddenly the watch becomes softer, dressier or somehow less capable. Serica clearly disagrees.

The new Ref. 7505 takes everything that made the French brand’s Field Chronometer such a cult favourite and condenses it into a far more compact 35mm case. The result is not a downsized version of the 6190. It feels more like the purest expression of what Serica has been building toward all along.

The slogan says it all: reduced in size, not in purpose.

At first glance, the 7505 looks instantly familiar. The unsigned dial, broad arrow hands and military inspired layout remain intact, as does the distinctly Serica balance between rugged utility and understated elegance. But the smaller proportions completely transform the character of the watch.

Where the 37.7mm Ref. 6190 already wore with vintage restraint, the 7505 leans fully into classic mid century field watch territory. It feels closer in spirit to the original military issued watches that inspired the category in the first place. Compact, lightweight and purpose built rather than oversized and performative.

Importantly though, Serica has avoided turning the watch into a retro novelty. The finishing remains surprisingly refined for a tool watch. Twisted lugs, polished bevels and the vertically brushed bezel give the case real depth, while the domed sapphire crystal adds warmth and distortion in exactly the right places.

And despite the reduced footprint, none of the core specifications have been sacrificed. The 7505 still delivers the robustness expected from the brand, including 200 metres of water resistance and chronometer certified accuracy. That combination alone makes it stand out in a market where most small watches are either dress pieces or stripped back heritage reissues.

Inside sits the now familiar COSC certified Soprod automatic movement, offering reliable daily performance alongside a 42 hour power reserve. It is a proven setup at this point and fits perfectly with Serica’s increasingly clear philosophy of making watches designed to genuinely be worn hard rather than simply admired online.

What makes the Ref. 7505 particularly interesting is how relevant its sizing feels right now. After years of aggressively oversized sports watches, the industry has slowly started rediscovering restraint. But while many brands are only just beginning to explore smaller diameters again, Serica seems completely comfortable there already.

The 35mm case does not feel like a marketing exercise chasing trends. It feels deliberate.

In many ways, the Ref. 7505 may actually represent the ideal modern field watch. Slim enough to disappear on the wrist, rugged enough for genuine daily wear and distinctive enough to avoid becoming another generic military homage.

That has always been Serica’s strength. The brand borrows heavily from history without ever feeling trapped by it.

And with the Ref. 7505, it may have just created its most complete watch yet.
