TAG Heuer has never been shy about celebrating motorsport, but every so often it produces a collaboration that feels genuinely different. The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa is exactly that.
Rather than leaning on Formula One or endurance racing, this limited edition looks east, celebrating one of Japan's most influential names in motorsport while combining Swiss watchmaking with Japanese design philosophy. The result is one of the cleanest and most distinctive Carrera releases we've seen in years.
Who Are Team Ikuzawa?
If the name doesn't immediately ring a bell, it probably should.
Founded by legendary racing driver Tetsu Ikuzawa, Team Ikuzawa helped shape Japanese motorsport throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Today, the legacy is carried forward by his daughter, Mai Ikuzawa, who has transformed the brand into a cultural icon blending racing, fashion and contemporary design.
Joining the project once again is George Bamford and Bamford Watch Department, whose experience creating distinctive limited editions makes him the perfect partner for a collaboration built around individuality.
Inspired By A Vintage Stopwatch
Unlike many heritage inspired watches that simply recreate an old dial, this Carrera takes its cues from a vintage Roadmaster dashboard stopwatch from the 1970s.
The influence is immediately obvious. The bezel free Carrera Glassbox case allows the dial to dominate, just as it would on a classic timing instrument. Large black numerals contrast against a crisp white textured dial, while carefully placed flashes of Team Ikuzawa red provide just enough visual excitement without overwhelming the design. It is incredibly restrained, but that restraint is exactly what makes it so striking.
A Fresh Take On The Carrera
The 39 mm stainless steel case is shared with the modern Carrera Glassbox, one of our favourite chronograph platforms currently available.
Inside sits TAG Heuer's impressive TH20 10 automatic chronograph movement, offering a healthy 80 hour power reserve and visible through the sapphire case back. One unusual touch is the absence of a running seconds display. Instead, the Team Ikuzawa signature occupies the space at six o'clock, echoing the sponsor logos found on classic racing chronographs. It's a small detail, but one that gives this watch its own identity.
